Unsure about Memory..

I have the 2x4GB 8GB HyperX grey Kit of RAM in my system at the moment.

My Tranquillo fan hangs over the fourth slot, and so I have one free.
I have another computer that needs 4GB.

Could I buy another kit, and put one stick in the other computer, and 4GB in the original one in that free slot to equal to 12GB?
Would this work?

I assume this is for your Sandy Bridge system.

It'd likely work but you may stop your RAM operating in dual channel mode.

How would I switch the operating method? o.o

I just dropped it in and it worked.

It'll work but you need 2 or 4 DIMMs for dual channel.

With 3 you end up with a pair in dual channel and one in single channel or all 3 in single channel.

It's not going to make a massive difference but there is going to be a small drop in performance though you likely wouldn't notice it without a benchmark.
