Hi there.

Im currently approaching the end of my pc cycle ( i normally change every 2-3 years).

My current specs are
AMD 8350.
16 gig of ddr3 1600hz ram
Asus r9 290.

Normally when my system hits this age i genuinely feel it requires a full rebuild, however this time i just dont feel it.

My question is, would just placing a 1070 be fine for the up coming 12 months or should i just rebuild now? I havent kept up with up coming releases (cpu/memory etc ) so not sure if some new generation is worth waiting for.

If you guys do recommend a GPU switch which brand should i go for? Ive always had Asus but is there another i should consider?

Oh i forgot to mention, i generally play Cities Skylines, BF4, BF1 ( when released ), dota etc and while i can play them, my fps does suffer. I game at 1440p and 144 hrz ( is lower demanding games anyway).

Thank you for taking the time to look and answer.

A 1070 will yield around a 90% upgrade in performance.

I'd recommend the INNO3D 3x Fan. Cheapest 1070 with a 3 year warranty and the cooler came off very well in reviews. It's quite a large cooler, so do check it'll fit in your case first :)

I'd advise against Asus. They make excellent products, but they're really not good enough to justify the premium placed on them - especially given their poor rep with after-sales.

The 290 is more suited for 1080p res these days whereas the 1070 is 1440p ready. I don't think it's quite 90% across the board but it is definitely a substantial upgrade.
