I have just upgraded the ram in my PC to 64GB 2 x 32GB and now have the dilemma of just selling my old ram or I could just put it in my son's PC. As he has the identical G.Skill ram and make his PC up to 64GB, but using 4 sticks.

I only built his PC in December and wished I thought about swapping my ram sooner, so I could have used my ram

So what do you think?

What does your son do with his PC? Unless it’s something special (lots of virtualisation, 4K video editing, etc) it’s unlikely he’d need more than 32gb and I’d probably just sell it

Depending on how much they are worth Sell them.

If you can live without the money from selling them I would chuck them in your son's PC.

He is not going to need 64GB for gaming but its a "Just in case" situation lol

Just gaming for the moment, though once he starts secondary school that may change.

I paid £220 last year for them and I think I may get about £80 to £90 now. Which guts me a little, so was thinking why not stick them in his PC.

I have 64GB in my gaming PC as I also use it for work, there are numerous times that I look at Task Manager and see 50% Memory usage, but it generally sits at about 37% in normal operation. Nice to have the overhead though and I bought it when prices were low last year.

What kind of PC does he have? Depending on the CPU/motherboard, you might find that it impacts the top speed and isn't really worth running them.

Other than that issue, I'd be inclined to keep it.

Well I have installed the extra 32GB in my son's PC, so running 64GB now and all seems fine. Kept the memory set to Expo 2 in the bios and updated the bios to the latest.
