i think this is the third year running. i get a tax reminder in the post, the website and phone service wont allow me to renew.

post office come out with a list of excuses why they cant do it, why its not their fault, why its something they cant do, why they cant call dvla to resolve it

every bloody year i end up having to go and see the zombies that work in the local (20 miles away) dvla office, i have to force them to accept my money to tax my bloody car.

so i own a car, that is motd and insured that i cannot drive on the road because those bloody morons wont issue me with tax.

im actually thinking about selling the car for this reason alone.

utter utter bunch of

i do not know, and they cant tell me why either.

the only thing i can spot wrong with the form is it lists the car as Volkswagen GTI

they have said in the past the car has a tax renewal cost of £0 and they cannot issue me with tax for £0. at first they thoguht the car had been registered as a disable person car and we filled out forms to "remove" that status but that made no difference.

i know the previous owner, he had the car for 3-4 years with any issues taxing it

If the car is incorrectly listed on the DVLAs system that would explain why they can't tax it. Had a similar problem when I used to work for Citroen, it was a right pain in the butt getting them to correct the details as the car effectively had to be reregistered.

skeeter, what difference does the car type make? dont worry, im not driving it at the moment, there is no need to report me "just in case"

its a golf. the v5 has all the info on there correctly but the tax reminder only has VW gti, i dont know if thats important or not as they wont/cant tell me.

Huh? Did someone say they were going to report you?

Sounds like you need to get the registration details sorted out at the DVLA. I've had issues in the past with cars on private plates and a trip to the DVLA to get the details all in order sorted it out.

Chill out. You just said it was a VW GTI, I just asked which car.

And yes, if the tax form just says VW GTI then its a car that doesn't exist which will explain why its not letting you tax it.

While you are down the DVLA office paying your tax, take your V5 with you and get them to correct the record at the same time to solve you having this issue in the future.

That's not true either. I have a vehicle with £0 tax and do it online every year and get a tax disc in the post with £0 printed on it

I get a tax disc with £0 on it as well. Get it from my local Post Office, no problems at all. Wish I could do it online but I can't as the vehicle doesn't have/need an MOT.

Quelle surprise, post office can't do it and blame dvla. Only info they can give is that it won't verify. So I'm still chasing about after their balls up
