Will my 980ti handle most games? So far it kills everything I throw at it in 1080p and don't really want to think about upgrading. Just curious if you guys know on average how often graphics cards such as this become obsolete? (It just the reference board FYI)

I think the GTX 980 Ti will be fine for a long time, as the consoles have much more limited hardware and 99% of games out there are multi-platform titles. Sure, we'll probably see a couple of games that will allow the settings to be cranked so high that even an overclocked GTX 980 Ti will fail to deliver decent fps at 1080p, but in those rare cases you could just turn down the settings a tad and still be fine (high is almost always just as good-looking as the ultra-settings). I'd say you'll be set for many years, or at least until you want to make the jump to 4K (even 1440p should be fine).

2yrs is the shelf life of any GPU, whether top end like Pascal Titan or low end like a 1050Ti.

...more than two years though for people who are happy to run stuff at 30fps.

Dont most new games support 4k resolution option already?

980ti i'd imagine like most higher end cards wil lbe fine for 1-2 years and then after that its fine aslong as you dont mind dropping the odd settings

Thanks for the rapid response, it's good to know theres still a number of years left in the card before it's time to upgrade.

A 980ti, especially clocked, will be plenty for 1080p (60 fps+ eye candy on) for at least the next 12 months.

I would say it depends on your monitor, im sure the guys running at 200fps notice their cards struggling a long time before the guys running at 60hz vsync.

Right now I just play on a 1080p g sync monitor at 144hz. To be honest I know the resolution isn't the best nowadays but it suits me just fine. There hasn't been a single game that my card hasn't cut through yet, I'm sure it will happen just not for a couple more years I hope. :)
