Unusual diesel issue?

i recon ecu had clipped the boost but was still fuelling like normal, hence the smoke and no performance

No mate, you mis-understood. The performance was much much improved!

It pulls well empty, sure, but this was quite different.

As I thought about this, its occured to me that the turbo's "whistle" is a fair bit louder than it was....

WTF, I'm off for a few weeks now, so when I get back, it'll either have had a new turbo perhaps, blown up completely or some agency numpty will have written it off anyway! :p

wow. goes against the logic lol extra performance, youd expect extra boosts but the smoke can only be over fuelling, but to do that at full boost would have to be mega over fuelling.

all gone straight over my head. im going back to bed!

Yes, puzzled me too. I have had overfuelling before and the performance was quite the reverse - hence the question to the OC/UK collective greatness.....

:D

I *think* with diesels if you way overfuel them to the point that you get clouds of black smoke, you do get more power. If you watch any amateur performance diesel engine in drag racing or tractor pulling they belt out loads of black smoke, as did the early Le Mans diesels. The new diesels at Le Mans don't produce any smoke because I think they have to run soot traps and particulate filters.

So I think it got confused and overfuelled itself to the point that it smoked out Milton Keynes.

I think you have a point - the smoke was similar (it didn't pull wheelies though.) :( :D

Indeed, trouble is, the drivers in question are supposed professionals, in charge of 44ton trucks, you can't take chances in such a vehicle, especially with a film crew in your cab!

I'm very glad that I turned down the chance to be in the show....

It annoys me though, I feel that the show has painted ESL in a poor light, standards there are extremely high, much better than for other hauliers I have worked for, editing seems to paint a diffferent picture alas.

that's something i picked up on. That guy constantly driving with 1 hand, or even just his elbows! Have a blow out and he would be killing a few people with those driving habits. i also find it weird that they didn't re shoot the footage where they had a front headlight out. Its all these little finishing touches that should have been fixed or hidden before finishing the episodes.

I bet the boss isn't happy with most of the stuff he saw?

Yes, I watched the footage of the lamp out, driver habits and cringed.

Stobart are one of the FEW companies that would rather have a late / failed delivery than have a truck on the road with so much as a marker bulb out somewhere on the trailer, or a rip in a trailer curtain etc etc. The slightest defect, it gets sorted, no iffs, no buts.

And bad drivers do get rooted out.

I think the issus there is Stobart afaik, were not involved with editing, I think they supplied information & then the creative imagination of the editing teem "Sexed it up" to put it mildly! :D

Series 2, should or perhaps could - assuming ELS get properly involved - be much more accurate.
