I thought id come here first before trying one of the hardware or software forums.

For the past 2-3 weeks ive had to run only one system as my second system was continually rebooting and then not always booting into windows.
After a few tests i ran memtest and found that the current Crucial Ballistix ram in the system was at fault throwing out errors almost imeadeatly the test was started.

So a wanted thread was posted and ShadowScotland (aka lemonman) came to the rescue with 2 Gig of Geil LL pc6400 dimms, which arrived on wednesday and went into the system. And after a bit of fidiling with the old ram in the bios to set ram volts to 2.1v the system finally booted up with the new ram.
As a precaution i ran a memtest on the new memory for a couple of hours which passed with flying colours. I then decided as an added precaution to completly wipe the drive in the system using killdisk before reinstalling windows.

I started installing Windows XP Pro 32bit back on the system today and got an irq not equal to BSOD while loading windows. I retarted the install process and windows did install without any further error's.
Ive installed all availeable updates for windows xp before i re installed my three gpu clients and one smp client.

Now before i go onto the unusual error i should give you the current specs of the system.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2Ghz (stock)
Zalman 9500NT HSF
Asus M3a79-T Motherboard.
8800GTS 512 Video card
9800 GX2 video card.
2 Gig Geil pc6400 DDR2 ram
160Gb Maxtor dimondmax 10 drive
LG DVD-RW DL drive (ide)
Silverstone Strider STF75 PSU (750 watt)
and various fans for cooling

Now to my error
i can run the smp client on its own and it seems to be stable however when i started my gpu clients the system froze and restarted.
Just after the main bios info i got this message

A HYPERTRANSPORT SYNC FLOOD ERROR OCCURED ON LAST BOOT

I rebooted and decided to just try running the gpu clients this time the system rebooted again but without any error messages. so for the moment ive got the second system just running with the smp client.

Im hoping someone here running an AMD system may have a clue as to what this error message means and how i can resolve this so i can run my three gpu clients as well.

Just did a bit of googling and found a few threads on this, seems it's an issue with the motherboard, there are some suggestions it may be to do with the voltages here:

http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...E&id=20090825030041359&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

Another one suggesting bios updates and disabling firewire (although this is not about your motherboard) http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...ard_id=1&model=M4A79 Deluxe&page=13&count=129

Different boards but sounds similar

thanx for the suggestion
ive had a look and set the cpu volts to 1.4v manually
now looking at coretemp for some reason when first booting the system up it is reporting the volts for the cpu as 1.475 untill i run the smp client and then it runs at 1.4v
as for the gpu clients ive now narrowed the issue down to the 9800 GX2 which is installed
if i run my gpu 1 client and the smp client only then the system seems fine ( so far ) but if i try and run any of the clients which use the 9800 GX2 then the system stall's.

So either the 9800 GX2 is faulty which it shouldnt be as i only got it back from RMA a couple of months ago and temps are not running that high on it, or the psu is now starting to show its age and is not supplying enough through the 12v rails.

A bit more testing done

Ive downloaded Cpuid HWmonitor and speedfan to check the voltages being measured via the motherboard and i do not like what i see to be honest.

looking via the bios all the main voltages are fine.
However looking at them via speedfan and HWmonitor they make intresting reading.

+3.3v is = 2.78v
+5v = 4.95
and the worst of all
+12v = 9.34v

So looking at these readings i think i need to replace the PSU now as well, i think all the 9800 GX2 is doing is drawing more power from the psu than there is left for it to provide.

This. It started sounding like a PSU problem in your second post. It might be worth trying your original RAM again once there's a decent PSU in place.

It was a decent PSU when i bought it ok nearly 4 years ago now :p.
The hard part is finding a decent 750watt+ PSU within my price range, i doubt im going to be lucky and find another 1100Watt psu for under £100 when i got hold of the tagan one in my main system.
