OK, so decided to pop along to the LGBT protest against the treatment of the LGBT community in Russia.

Never been to anything like it.

But what do I take?

I don't want to be laden down with too much stuff.

I am kind of alternating between either the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, or the Sigma 18-250mm, in case I need more reach.

Don't think I want to take more than one lens, and the only other I have to take are the Sigma 10-20mm, Sony 35 f1.8, and the Tamron 70-300mm.

Suggestions?

Edit: Oh, and do I take my flash?

I'd suggest a flash, for fill given the weather recently. As for lenses. 70-200's tend to be the go to choice of photojournalists for reference. That said, something like a 17-50 could be good fun if you can get in close enough.

Thanks for suggesting taking flash. Came in very handy.

Turned out to be a nice outing.

Will post some pics tomorrow :)

Some shots.

What I came to understand part way in, is that simply grabbing shots of large numbers of people in itself, doesn't do much to convey atmosphere.

Hopefully I managed to capture some of the atmosphere through some of the images.

All in all, it was a great outing.

Link to full set at bottom.
