unusual question???????

i joined these forums for some advice on buying my son a pc for his birthday. its all up and running perfectly and i now have his xbox one in the living. however he has now informed me that almost every single game including exclusives will be released on the pc at some point. i have a couple of questions now.

1 - is this true that there soon will be no such thing as an xbox exclusive ( a bit like GOW 1, titanfall, dead rising 3 iirc )

2 - if this is the case is there any reason whatsoever to atually own a pc and pay the over inflated digital prices MS charge???

reason im asink is my son has informed me that if i get rid of the xbox 1 i can use steam big picture and play the games on the living room tv from his pc instead of using the xbox one and that almost all games will be far cheaper than digital xbox one games

There will be some complete exclusives (Forza for example), and others will be time based so their initial release will be on XB1 and then PC 6 months or so later.

But really, making a decision on your gaming platform based on exclusives is dubious at best. Your son is correct, you can play PC games through your TV and many people do but just be aware of the screen size and the way games may need to be scaled. I prefer to use a monitor, but that is just me.

Generally digital PC titles are cheaper than their console counterparts, but there is a lot to be said for the convenience of a console. In most cases you put a disc in and play. However with a PC you need to consider the specification of your PC and probably tweak the game to best suit the ability of the PC you have. Then of course you have possible driver issues to contend with, as well as game bugs / crashes. Whilst these still exist even in console games they tend to be more prevalent on PC. That said, I have had very few issues with PC games in recent years, but that is not the case for everyone. Indeed, I often feel that it is the temptation to tweak that causes issues in the first place and that is why I never overclock and I tend to simply use game menus to change settings rather than editing cfg/ini files.

Then there is the multiplayer environment on PC, generally it is OK, but you get far more cheaters than on console which can spoil the fun. Also I have found that the PC community these days can be a bit unhelfpful and certainly does not feel as welcoming or friendly as it used to 15yrs ago. A lot of "L2P nub" trolls.

Then consider control methods, certain games, uses, applications are better suited to a keyboard and mouse and that control method may not be possible whilst sitting on the sofa in your front room (or be uncomfortable and cumbersome).

Finally there is the cost. Depending on how good your sons current PC is, you may have to factor in upgrades to enable the PC to play newer titles which may negate any savings you make on cheaper software, depending on how many games you are likely to buy. If he already has a powerful PC this will not be as necessary, though. Indeed, even with a modest PC, as long as you dont mind lower quality visuals upgrades can be kept to a minimum.

Overall, though, I would have to say that for a front room a console makes more sense but that is not to say a PC wouldn't work. I have my PS4 in the lounge and my gaming PC upstairs in the spare room. Is it not possible for you to keep both so you get the best of both?

i wasnt really going to get rid of the xbox as i have 59 digital titles alone this gen and over 200 on the xbox 360. it just got me wondering as im assuming that at some point the xbox digital titles will become available to download on pc???? plus i enjoy building my gamerscore on xbox. its not that high considering i have had this gamertag since 2009 but we do have a steam library of 300 or so odd games which i wouldnt mind playing some on the big tv in the living room
