upgrade - stick with 939 or go C2D?

OK I just bought a 8800 GTS 640 and i feel that this is being quite severely bottlenecked by my opty 146 which I knew probably would but not too this extent. I get a score of about 4600 in 3d mark 06 althougth the CPU is overclocked at the moment I don't think this would make a considerable disfference.

my spec at the moment is:
Opteron 146
DFI Lanparty Ultra D Mobo
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200
8800 GTS 640MB
----------------------

Basically I would like to game at 1680x1050 with most things if not everything turned on.

So...the dilemma is whether to go to a C2D system which would cost probably at least £350 with new MB, CPU, RAM and then the hassle of selling parts or to upgrade my current CPU to a dual core?

I could get a opty 165/ 170 / dual core 3800/4200 for under £200 but would this meet my req's?

Any input from anyone would be appreciated.

thanks.

just get a dual core Opty and you will be sorted

check my sig, with stock gfx card i get just under 9K and OC i get over 10K 3dmark 06
which is more then some C2D 3Ghz OC setup

thanks for the replies. I think this is the way i'm leaning - now to just hunt down an opty....

if you'll likely to get funds in the future go for the asrock board that can take ddr/ddr2 and runs the c2d's.

bout £45 for the mobo and £115 for the processor 4300 or 6300.
