Right im very new to overclocking but i do know a few bits

i want to get a very stable system from an i7 920 something like 3.6 to 3.8 mhz on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 mobo for 24/7 use

all these bits are in the post for my system

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel Motherboard

Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2GB) (1600MHz) Tri-Channel

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready Modular Power Supply

Corsair H50 High-Performance CPU Watercooler

Coolermaster Storm 'Scout' Gaming Case

i will be putting 1 ati 4870 512mb in there as well

this system will be predominantly used for a music production and is going to be on vista 64bit

I wanted to get some expert advice before i dive into overclocking from you guys and any advice will be much appreciated thanks.

where do i start  ?

there is lots of overclocking of i7 in the overclocking tab on these forums i would advise starting there :) also a guide on there that is stickyed.

Im very new to OC aswell, but its really quite simple to get 3.6ghz

Its just a matter of bumping your BCLK, normally its at 133. your taget is 171.

just bump it up to 150 to begin with, then test with : [Intel burn test/Linx for about 25 passs]

if it passes, bump the bclk up a notch and keep testing.

When you hit a wall, just bump up your VCORE

have fun and keep tinkering

thanks for the promt replys.

Couldnt find the guide from "Stickyed" anywhere in the overclocking and cooling form and there is no search facility. if anyone knows where it is please post a link for it here.

thanks newbcake cant wait to get it all stared will let you know how i get on . i hope to be stabel at 3.8ghz

also does anyone have these componets specific oc ideas. want to keep low temps nothing to realy exceeding 75c on all cores. i dont really want to fiddel about with the ram to much eaither just to get it as rock solid as i can.

thanks again

I have been playing with my i7 for while while im fully stable at 4Ghz i have been running at 3.6 to see if i could see any difference in day to day tasks..so far none at all anyway try

BLCK of 171
Turn turbo mode on
leave all the power saving toold on in the bios
test with prime for 8hrs...should do it with std vcore, if it fails up a notch if pass you can try lower a notch

when priming watch your temps, i wont let my cpu go above 80c max altough other people will let them go higher. The i7 should throttle at 100c to stop damage.

Hope that helps

Here my template for UD5 3.6 hope it helps

cpu ratio - 20x
bclk - 171
DRAM - DDR3-1600MHz 1.64
Turbo Mode - On
CPU Voltage - 1.285v in bios << Once stable lower 1 notch at a time
QPI/DRAM Voltage - 1.31v << Once stable lower 1 notch at a time
Mem multi - 8
QPI Link - x36
Load Line Calibration - Enabled

If your going for 3.8 just up the BLCK to 181

should have a thread where the only posts allowed are the system components and then the bios settings changed xP woudl be a great referene poiunt rather than scanning through loads of different threads to try and find someone with the same xP

EDIT: like above :D ^^^^
