Well recently sent my full uk driving license off to change address and add another class to it. Weeks went by and still had not received my new driving license so I phoned them, at which point they told me I didn't have a full driving license  I spent a few months arguing with them but it was to no avail. It was obvious I have to go through it all again :(

Well today I have a full UK driving license again, had to take my theory last month to which I passed and I took my practical driving test today and passed with 2 minors. Bare in mind that I last past my test some 20 years ago, I had a few hours with BSM to try and solve any bad habits but it's all done now. The downside of course is that I have lost certain entitlements such as towing over a certain weight etc.

DSA had better not **** it up this time though I now have copies of everything just incase. Anyway, thought I would share the good news

I've heard quite a few incidents of this, it's ridiculous really, surely they have computer systems to tell them who has a licence?
Useless, I wouldn't have taken the test again, I would have taken it to court.

Needed license for my work so didn't really have a choice buddy. It wasn't that bad anyway. Passed theory with 1 wrong answer and one missed hazard and passed practical with 2 minors. So pretty much breezed through it. DSA said they can only go by what's on their computers and because it had been so long since I took my original driving test I couldn't remember all the details etc. Was quicker and easier just to go through it all again. There was a case the other year where a Police Motorcycle driving instructor had the same happen, he had to go through it all again; including Police driver training

So I take it they didn't receive your old license then?

No, this is where the problems started. I was unable to find it so god only knows where that ended up. We have recently moved and I can't help but think it got thrown away during said move. :(

Still has his NCB though...

this, still have ncb :D so no change belive it or not on the insurance front. Not that its a huge policy anyways :p and yes driving Miss Daisy for a while so as not to get points etc though I have never had any anyway but sods law and all that

Posted about this before as the same thing happenned to me... Well, I lost my bike entitlement.

Cost me about £500 in cbt, DAS, theory etc.

A photocopy isn't enough though mate - make sure you get it certified by a solicitor or police station.

The Ambulance station will hold copies, aswell as St John Ambulance and the local Police for the work I do so I am hoping this is covered now. Sorry to hear you had similar. I read somewhere about a motorcyclist sending his license back to DSA only to receive a license with Bus entitlement, when he contact them about it they removed the bus entitlement but wouldn't give him his bike cat. back
I have the originals of the Theory Pass cert. and also the Practical Pass Cert. ;)

Wonder if it would have helped if you'd had the actual license number to hand? Ive had occasions where i "don't show up on the system" but as soon as i quote the number on the license they find my details.

Got that written down all over the place buddy, including my phones so will have it if needed  thanks for the tip.

Isn't that illegal under the data protection act? They HAVE to make BEST effort to keep data correct

Well officially yes but I guess mine and about 1000 other people found their license details on a memory stick laying on a train station bench somewhere :p :D

Wish DVLA screw up my license :/

I got all the paperwork for it still in a box (only a few years old) somewhere, not that I would tell them over the phone.

Would love to take them to court, and turn up with all the pass certificate ... wonder what the judge/magistrate/whoever would say to whoever is representing the DVLA :D

Would love to be there for that one bud :D :D

I can't believe people are actually retaking their test. Shocking.

What else can we do, I am certainly not going to drive illegally according to DSA (Not that that is what you are suggesting mate) Once this happens there is nothing more that can be done apart from retaking the whole lot, which I had to pay for too.
