Up Yours DSA!

Even if they are loosing hundreds of licenses, its technically a very small percentage - mistakes do happen.

Not that it's an excuse, but I understand how confusions can happen. I don't understand how they can't look up your license number - data just doesn't disappear

It's happening all the time with motorcyclists who send their licence off for updating and the new one comes back without the motorcycle endorsement. MCN have a solution with a petition running on the Downing St. website which is generating a lot of interest. Take a look.

I saw that (and signed it). It has been now 3 weeks since I passed my bike test, and had my licence sent off. I took scans of everything. Maybe an added complication was that I also had to change my photo licence photo, but I completed the form correctly.

To date, the cheque for the amended licence has not been banked, and I am increasingly nervous. How difficult can this be....

No way I'm retaking my test - I'd prefer the added complication of small claims court any time.

You get a certificate when you pass your test?
I passed 10 years ago and all I have is my green paper license and photo card, should I have more?

I’m completely shocked that more people have not kicked up a bigger fuss about this. I guess as in the case of the OP needs must.

As said I’d simply drive without my license knowing full well I was in the right while chasing them for it. re-take my test yeah right!

As for the loss of data by the DVLA, I can’t believe this hasn’t made more headlines. What if this was medical records or tax records (ok, we all know they don’t lose tax records) what kind of system are they running, incompetence of the highest order

I’ve just googled this and I’m so overwhelmed with rage I had to go outside and walk it off!

Not only are they cocking things up massively they are destroying some peoples jobs and livelihood. The bare faced cheek of them to say they are never wrong and don’t make mistakes is astonishing. As a programmer and computer scientist I can only imagine the horror of whatever house of cards they have paid too much for to run this debacle.

If I was the OP there is certainly enough evidence to get your costs back for the test, lessons and loss of earnings.

This was on watchdog this year
the only way they will admit they have cocked up and give you your licence back is if you have your pass certificate

Witch you wont have as you have to send it off when you pass first time round , the dvla then destroy it

In the case of the police worker he had the head of police say that he had seen his licence
the bloke had been fixing and test riding police bikes for years , he still had to retake his test

one person even got back a tank licence :D

A system that loses your details so frequently is worse than no system at all.

If there was no system copies of the license would be proof enough (if a copy isn't proof enough neither is the original - anything can be faked given enough time and money).

Imagine if your bank just randomly said no Mr Jones, you don't have an account with us, what's that you had thousands of pounds in savings? Well our system says you don't so you'll just need to open a new account and put all the money in again.

I suspect the problem isn't your details are lost when you come to update your license - your details were lost years ago, perhaps they were never even put on the system 20 years ago or a computer change since wiped them out.

I'd recommend anyone sending their license in phones DVLA to check they exist before giving up their license.

I still have my test pass certificates from car and bike test!

How did you do that ? they wont normally issue a licence without it
even says that on the youtube link

No idea about the car one, can't remember, but for bike the examiner took my old licence and said I would get sent a new one with the bike entitlement. I kept the test pass cert the whole time.

Sounds like thats the thing todo then , just dont send off the pass cert and see if they issue you a licence :)
i'd go and hide them some place safe guy's :D

My understanding is that most of the screw ups are when people send their licence off for a new photo or address. I recently renewed my photo and ticked the box saying I'd lost the old licence and kept it. I didn't trust them with it so had anything untoward happened could have miraculously found the old one as proof of entitlement.

Don't you have to pay for a lost one but not for a change of address?

Nice job passing but my blood would be boiling.

yep ~£20 but if not done to often, maybe worth the security. or if an old license is proof(although I think technically illegal) just do it once to get a backup.

yeah not a bad idea Bat, but have to pay but suppose worth it for the security. I'm always scared my bike entitlement will go wondering. But hasn't so far.

I can't believe there's no way to prove. would be interesting to see what a solicitor would say about a small claims court. especially if you have photocopy and the like.

Taken computer scans of both sides, but by the sounds of it, that isn't enough. Also got a "spare" photocard from when I got a speeding ticket and lost eh paper part. was easier to get both replaced. Wonder if that would be enough.

To me, this just screams "TAKE 'EM TO COURT!!!"

You've clearly suffered a physical loss, £50 for your test, hundred or so for lessons, plus anxiety over your license + job, and they are solely responsible for all these problems. Bring a case against them, make a big fuss over it (heck, you ought to be contacting newspapers over this!). You'll either get a payout from the case, or a quick settlement.

Why the hell would a scan not be proof. That makes no sense. Perhaps because it could be faked maybe.

What a silly world we live in at times.
