Hi, I'd like a bit of advice.
I currently have XP and mainly use my PC for gaming. I was wondering if it's worth getting win7 to take advantage of DX11.

In the near future I'll be getting
Shogun 2
Deus Ex 3
Witcher 2 (was going to be Dragon age 2 but I've just played the demo)

I'm generally happy with XP and wouldn't switch to win7 for any other reasons.

PC
Intel core 2 1.86 overclocked to 2.14
4G Ram
GeForce GTX460 768

Ewww XP
:)

Win7 is great, definitely worth it, get x64 btw.

Even if it just means that you'll be able to address all of your system and gfx RAM

You have a DX11 card, you now have absolutley no reason not to upgrade windows. Plus Win7 is a lot more stable for gaming than XP ever was.

Have to be honest Win7 has been great for me (xp was pretty solid too tbh). Not many games yet make big use of DX11 I think but the number is steadily growing. Mind you I have at least 3 DX11 games (civ 5, dirt 2, metro 2033) and probably more i don't even realise.

Thanks for the unanimous response. :)

Could someone please clarify what the difference is between the OEM and retail versions apart from £45?

I know XP is old but that doesn't mean what's new is better. COUGHVista;)

AFAIK, OEM may only be installed once per mobo. If you're planning to upgrade the mobo, go retail.

PS. I've been on vista for 4 years with no problems

Meh, I used to install my Vista OEM on several mobos :p

The only thing they ask during reactivation is 'Is it being installed on the same computer you got it on?'

Hmmmm, well, same case, new hardware, ok, same PC :p

But if you get the retail you dont need to keep on reactivating.

Windows 7 is actually the first WIN-OS I'm satisfied with since Windows 98, in fact I like it even more. Loads of stuff runs on it again that I couldn't get to run satisfactorally in any compatability mode on Win XP, or Vista. At the same time it's small and fast. Dman, I sound like a friggin' commercial. It's true though.

Win 7 all the way.

Got win 7 15 days ago, 64 bit win 7 professional, best investment since XP.

Got a dual boot setup going, windows 7 never had a problem with, got everything now installed on it that i had on xp, and iv uninstalled things on xp as iv installed them on windows 7, so iv got no use for XP no more, but its there incase i need anything off it.

I hated vista never bought it as it was a bit of a fail, windows 7 is smoother, faster, cleaner, and its just great. well worth the price.

Im like a old man, iv got a 7 year old mobile phone, i don't like change at all, but windows 7 after a few months debating in my mind that i dont want to leave xp and everything i know, but its the best choice i ever made to be honest :)
