I just saw this test of the upcoming AMD 12.4 drivers:

It seems image quality and performance have both been improved over MLAA. For HD7000 series users, the BF3 improvements look huge!! It seems that compared to the old MLAA there is around a 20% performance boost for the games tested and it is now faster than MSAA too by around 10% too.

It seems the 12.3 Beta already has MLAA2.0:

Taken from tomshardware.com

This feature has nothing to do with the Radeon HD 7000 series specifically, as it’s an update to the morphological filtering algorithm used by all of AMD’s cards, from the Radeon HD 4000s onward. The company is claiming enhanced image quality and better performance with its improved MLAA 2.0 that’ll be included with the Catalyst 12.3 beta and Catalyst 12.4 WHQL drivers.

i read it was for 69xx series also, cant remember where though.
yeah it is

While we're talking about features, we should also mention a couple of new feature additions coming with AMD's Catalyst 12.3 beta and 12.4 WHQL drivers. When those drivers hit, Radeon HD 6000 and 7000 series owners will have access to two new anti-aliasing modes. MLAA 2.0 (Morphological AA) uses an enhanced algorithm that offers better performance and image quality than the original. A new Sparse Grid Supersample AA mode will also be made available that works with DirectX 9, 10, and 11 titles. This SSAA mode will be further updated when the Catalyst 12.3 (and newer) drivers arrive, with automatic LOD adjustments to maintain sharper textures

I think people forget that it's not just polygon edges and transparent textures that have aliasing, but many shader effects you see in games also have lots of aliasing. A lot of the "crispness" you see in textures with MSAA and no AA at all, is actually shader aliasing, which post-process AA methods like MLAA and FXAA will attempt to get rid of, hence the bluriness. I'm not saying MLAA and FXAA are perfect and they certainly add an extra, unwanted layer of bluriness, but having just MSAA enabled isn't exactly accurate either. Look at some professional CGI graphics and super-sampled graphics, you won't see this shader aliasing (resulting in artifically crisp graphics) because it's not supposed to be there.

This is why I prefer FXAA turned on in Skyrim along with MSAA, it looks much more natural to my eyes. Ideally I'd prefer super-sampling, but FXAA is a good tradeoff if in terms of performance.
