Having my new gaming lappy on the way, and looking forward to getting back into Warcraft, however, ive not picked up a pc magazine for months apart from this months PC Zone, which mentioned a Lord of the Rings MMORPG and a warhammer one.

Are these in beta trial already, how do they compare to the almighty Warcraft?

Is there anything else up and coming that could float my boat?

Conan looks sort of maybe ok. Ish.

And there's the Star Trek one which will no doubt just wee all over the license like LOTR Online has and SWG (eventually) did.

If you liked the old SWG then have a google, there are projects going on that will most likeyl just bomb but it's worth looking at.

Was looking forward to LOTR but I've read 3-4 people who have slated the game, as I know they were very keen on it which seems like a shame. Their biggest gripe is how small the world is at the moment so hopefully they will bring out loads of content for it. Apparently the little content there is seems well polished though.

Darkfell looks interesting as well, by a lot of the people who were involved in UO if memory serves me correct.

Personally I'm loving Vanguard at the moment but I never really enjoyed WoW, I've not seen many people who love WoW get on with Vanguard as they are fairly different games.

LOTR is crap, it doesn't matter if they make the world bigger, in fact I don't think they can change the game to make it good, there's just to much wrong in it. Like most big players, they've wasted a great opotunity. It's like playing an average MMORP from about 8 years ago. They would have to start again to make it good.

Tabula rasa, star gate might be good

Isnt anyone else bored of the same-old fantasy themed mmo's? I want Cyberpunk!

yep, thats why I'm really interested in Huxley and tabula rasa, I thought tabula rasa was going to be a true fps, but it isn't.
You still aim, but the damage is purely based on stats rather than where on the person you have targeted. Where Huxley is pure fps :)

Why can't some one make a decent MMORPG

What I want is SWG but FPS
Or
EVE but again FPS and a proper experience system not just time based.

I would like an MMORPG based on the game worlds of Planescape Torment or Fallout. Too many of the current ones are unappealing.

I agree, two of my favourite games of all time and both the game worlds would make excellent environments for MMOs.

Yeah give me cyberpunk online done properly! I want neon-lighting, back alleys, seedy strip bars, strange food, weird chinese guys, body mods etc.

I suspect there's several designs out there, but considering how The Matrix Online and Neocron flopped, perhaps publishers are hesitant to make games that deviate from gnomes and dwarves :(

What exactly do you find a problem with LOTR?

I've enjoyed the instances and the fact that you can level on your own (which most MMORPG's don't offer nowadays not realising' that there are sometimes I just want to do things on my own or if you join a game late everyone's a higher level and not wanting to do things). The graphics and sounds are also pretty good.

I don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread (there are just too many quests that you get overwhelmed at times) but I'd definately give it a look if you want a great storyline whilst not having your hand held at every turn.

It does, however, require a beast of a PC (mainly to having debugging on I guess) and there are a few bugs in game.

LOTRO i can see being too restrained by the pre-written lore...

ST: O i can see being filled with wannabe kirks and picards...whilst it could be a good game its one of those that i can see the community potentially ruining, that and the update wont be huge due to its trekkie image

this is possibly why fantasty wins atm..WoW, lotr books and films, harry pothead, its all about magic, dwarves and elves atm

where as sci-fi i guess i seen as having a limited market (and the "geek" factor) and no mass appeal that films have brought to the fantasy genre as a whole

A Fallout MMO would be amazing!

I'm back to playing WoW now with the release of the expansion after being out of the game for well over a year.

LoTR is pretty poor and Vanguard could be good, in 6 months.

Warhammer Online is the one I'm waiting for right now, I just hope Mythic don't mess this up.

Not only doesn't it add anything new, it's far far to basic, the scope s very limited and the fun wears out after 5minutes.

Great story line? what storey line.
