hi guys i recently purchased the 17 8700k and rog maximus x hero over clocked
it keeps coming up with a bios update if i do this will i loose the overclock settings?

Yes you will all settings updating the bios, dont bother updating the bios unless your having problems.

Save your overclock in bios to mem stick

Good advice, if your PC is working correctly then best leave alone, and as already mentioned the overclock settings will disappear (always best to have them backed up anyway just in case you need to trouble shoot your PC in the future?)

how do i save the bios settings as never done it before
reason is the ai suite 3 isnt working due to microsoft update ??

Was your AI suite 3 working before the microsoft update?

If it was working then its nothing to do with your BIOS and not to flash it

Ok but when I've downloaded the new al suit 3 it has a some other stuff which I'm a bit scared to load on just incase
