I have an iPhone 4 that is running a redsn0w tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.5, I never bothered to update to iOS 5 when it came out but would like to upgrade now.

What are my upgrade options? Can I just plug the phone in and update to iOS 5 through iTunes without bricking it? (I know I will loose my jailbreak if I do this).

Any other options, maybe I could upgrade straight to a jailbroken iOS 5?

Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Just plug it into itunes and update to 5.1.1 then download Absinthe jailbreak from redmond pie and re-jailbreak your phone.

If you do a backup on itunes and restore from backup before re-jailbreaking you should not loose any data either.

Cheers, sounds much easier than I expected! I thought I might end up bricking it by updating it straight through iTunes haha.

Will let you know how I get on tonight. :D

All done, I tried to upgrade to 5.1.1 through iTunes and it threw an error up half way through and went into recovery mode. I had to Restore it to factory settings which installed a fresh 5.1.1 and then I had to restore from my backup which I ensured I made before starting (and double and triple checked). ;)

I am now up and running on a untethered jailbroken 5.1.1 :D
