Been out of the pc scene for about a year now since switching to mac. Just wondering how a x1900xtx fairs against the new dx10 gfx card? is it still classified as high end-ish?
What would 2x x1900xtx in crossfire mode be equivalent to now?

ive got one and it still pulls some pretty good speeds - i can play most games on max settings appart from Oblivion - ive clocked mine to:
672 / 792 - pretty good i think!

It is going to start chugging a wee bit soon though - having two in crossfire mode will be an excellent choice although in the next year or so it will become obsolete as its a DX9 card and the next gen games will on the whole be dx10. Its a big jump to the ATI 2900 equivalent or the 8800 series that nvidia now offers - careful though, you can end up spending A LOT of money too early, i would wait a bit and keep using the 1900XT, even trying to find a slave card to go crossfire would be hugely beneficial!

I purchased a x1900xtx the day it came out from ocuk, loved it but then moved to console gaming and a macbook for email, browsing etc.

However have recently been given an amd 64 3500+ and could resist building a system for it, so far i have:
- DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 ULTRA-D
- xfx 7600 gt xxx edition
- antec p180 case
- 1 gig ram from old set up

On switching to console and mac i gave my high end (at that time) gaming pc to my cousin, I'm wondering whether it's worth me swapping the 7600 gt for the x1900xtx or not. My cousin don't really play that many games but then again I'm only running at a res of 1280x1024. Worth the hassle of swapping?

Definitely. The 1900XTX would knock the socks off the 7600GT. Throw 2 in crossfire and you're looking at a powerful and fairly cheap graphics solution. The only better DX9 graphics card would be the 1950XT. I'm pretty sure the 1900XTX beats the 1950Pro.

Of course you could look at the 8800GTS or 2900HD if you're going to be spending the price of a 7600GT + 1900XTX anyway. For not much more then that you'd be getting a very high end card.

nah, I do not want to spend that much money on a gfx card again, think i paid £400 odd for the x1900xtx brand new before.
I managed to get the 7600 gt for £50, if i was to swap it would just be a straight swap for my cousins x1900xtx. He doesn't mind really, he only really plays strategy games and 'Sims' which i'm sure could easily run off the 7600 gt. However Im not too sure my psu would even support a x1900xtx, i did read that pci-e x16 cards gets all their power from the slot? So the 7600 gt does not need any type of molex connection from the psu? I do remember that the x1900xtx had a square type connector from the psu though.
