my father has abysmal broadband ...

Is there anyway I can package the whole heap of updates at mine onto a flash drive and then install them at his to allow functionality from the creators updates etc

cheers ill have a look at the tool abit more in depth later but seems like it might be okay, although under documentation theres only very specific updates it seems to allow you to select , and what with microsoft having a paddy with some updates needing to be installed in chronalogical order , hopefully it works okay though , thanks for the sugjestion :)

You could download the media creation tool and burn the latest version off then do a upgrade over the top.

It won't contain all the latest updates since those will only download the last version with the latest feature update, but the update installers can still be downloaded directly from microsoft so all that would be needed is the latest update package for that month along with any updates that were pushed in between the usual monthly patches.

This mans PC is like a vault ... I wouldn’t get close enough to even think about it lol . Otherwise I’d of just took the machine to mine and updated here manually , he’s a I know what I’m doing kinda guy don’t question me . So I just like the idea of giving him the stuff and letting him get on with it . I’d go through a song and dance with him about anything remotely to do with what is effectively a re installation , edit : all flash or local network storage now haven’t burned a thing since VCDs were a thing

I’ll do this , thank you ... haven’t done this since 2008r2 so never occurred to me .

I've not found it works very well - typical MS - but Windows 10 does have the ability to share updates locally - you could update some cheapy Windows 10 device like a second hand tablet or something and then leave that connected to his network and periodically take to your place to update it - I've not really bothered reading up on how it works to see if there are ways to optimise how Windows 10 works with update available locally.

https://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-set-windows-10-get-updates-local-network-internet

(Though I guess you could just set the device up as a WSUS box).

Unfortunately you'll probably find Windows 10 still trying to do a lot of updates on his slower connection almost regardless of settings though :( the OS is a menace for updates and way past time they gave back some proper tools for taking manual control of it.

Typical MS though if they are going to put something into the OS like that with the ability to share updates locally why not give people proper control over how it works and make it work properly!!! so it is actually useful... ****** idiots.

Find out what version Windows he is on - you can do this by typing WINVER in the Start Menu. If 1709 or below (which sounds likely), then concentrate on installing 1803 first. You can download Windows setup either to a USB drive or a DVD. The media creation tool here will help do this for you.

Then download and install the latest cumulative update. You can download the update from here. Any updates after that will be small enough for his internet to cope with. If the machine and/or internet is slow, leave it overnight to process the remaining updates.

The above is probably a few hours work at least. Especially if you need to install 1803 first. I'd look into any issues with the broadband connection, that way Windows will be able to update itself if it has a good enough internet connection.

... it's problem stating ... but how can you anticipate drivers you might need to compliment windows ..
if you have identity of principal hardware components gpu/nic/integrated graphics, ... - could you anticipate drivers in advance ?
