Link > http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18503952

Hi, l get this error now and again, drivers on mobo + GPU[ATI] are up to date also do not use Beta Drivers and the GPU is not overclocked, it was working fine until ATI Driver UPdate around 11.6. Did a bit research and came across this and have applied the adjusting the Timeout Detection fix by method A:Microsoft Fix It Wizard and ATI Only GPU's > AMD Overdrive is not enabled[uncheck] in CCC will report back if this helps to solve the issue, but there are other reason's why this error will occur found one or two on Youtube, if you get the this error, note the error code you get this will help in resolving the issue read on-

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Your PC may temporarily hang or become unresponsive, and you receive the following error message:Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

This error can occur for one or more of the following reasons:
.You may need to install the latest updates for your display driver.
.Visual effects, or too many programs running in the background may be slowing your PC down.
.The GPU is taking more time than permitted to display graphics to your monitor.
.Faulty GPU.
.Sli.
.Xfire.
.Cuba.
.Overclocking.
.Certain Games.
.GPU Bios > Modified or maybe Dual Bios.

Note: If you are using an older video card, there may not be a video driver that is fully compatible with your version of Windows.

To Solve error due to Timeout Detection not being long enough-
Method 1: Increase the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) processing time by adjusting the Timeout Detection[default:2secs] and Recovery registry value.

A:Microsoft Fix It Wizard - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2665946

B:Modify the registry value yourself-
1.Exit all Windows based programs.
2.Click Start, type regedit in the Search box, and then double-click regedit.exe from the results above. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3.Browse to and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
4.On the Edit menu, click New, and then select the following registry value from the drop-down menu specific to your version of Windows (32 bit, or 64 bit):

For 32 bit Windows-
a.Select DWORD (32-bit) value.
b.Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
c.Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and click OK.

For 64 bit Windows-
a.Select QWORD (64-bit) value.
b.Type TdrDelay as the Name and click Enter.
c.Double-click TdrDelay and add 8 for the Value data and clickOK.
5.Close the registry editor and then restart your computer for the changes to take affect.

Also forum members have mentioned try adding a touch more voltage to the GPU if Overclocked and if you run your card stock check ATI Only > AMD Overdrive is not enabled[uncheck] in CCC.

Again if you get this error"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows, write down the error code and this will help to resolve your issue.

Please report back if you get this Display driver stopped responding and has recovered with Error Code and Fix.
