Hey guys , ive got a iphone 3g on 3.1.2 jailbreak and ive tried to update to 4.0 or 4.0.1 but i keep getting a 3194 error? (Im not updating to 4.1 because i'll lose my unlock and JB isnt available for 4.1 yet) Any ideas ?

Well if you just update through iTunes. That will take you to 4.1. But you can then download firmware for 4.0.1 and then because you've jailbroken before you can restore to the previous version which would be 4.0.1 from 4.1. That will be the best thing to do.

But, make sure on cydia at the top on the front page it says about SHSH on version 3.2.2 or something this will enable you to go back a version.

1)
open the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows, wordpad) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
2) Boot the device into DFU mode. Hold down power and home button at the same time (iPhone plugged into pc) and when the screen goes black take your finger off the power but continue holding down the home button. It will then load up iTunes and bring up a restore thing.

3) Shift, left click on restore and find the firmware you downloaded.

And that should be fine.

edit: on second thoughts that might actually not work and you would only be able to restore to 3.1.2 again. I would just wait for the 4.1 jailbreak to come out.. won't be long
