Updated BIOS, now CPU doesn't work

I'm building the system for a friend and have this motherboard with this CPU. I've checked, they're compatible.

I installed XP and noticed that C&Q wasn't kicking in even though it was enabled in the BIOS and I had the drivers installed. I went to the gigabyte website and got the latest BIOS version for the board. However, upon updating the system would turn on but I wouldn't get anything else to confirm it was. Fans on, lights on but no POST, no beeps.

I got another AM2 CPU from another system in the house, put that in and it worked fine. Thinking that maybe the BIOS revision didn't work with the new CPU, I reverted back to the original but no luck.

I've tried the new CPU in the old PC that the other CPU came from and no luck. Not even a beep from POSTing.

Has the new BIOS killed the new CPU?

Tried all of the above and nothing gets it to boot. Not even reverting to the original BIOS. I've tried the CPU in another PC with no luck hence my confusion.

Yes to your first point although the second PC I tried it in, while it has an AM2 socket may not work with an AM3 CPU but I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work in 1 motherboard and work in another.

Between updating the BIOS and restarting, I did nothing out of the ordinary to the CPU. Updated BIOS, restarted and am left with a chip that won't POST.

I haven't looked at the gigabyte forums yet, guess I'll do it now.
