I know there's been several updates to the Quake engine since the source was released - people adding transparancy and particle effects and stuff like that.
ill happily accept the Quake2 physics (double jumps, circle jumps, strafe jumps etc.) and q2dm1 in any new engine. really was the best multiplayer (and map) ever imo!
Last time I checked the Q2 client projects weren't in remotely the same class as QW (although to be fair, graphics aside ezquake is probably the most advanced client of any FPS game in existence).
