Updated Router- No Internet - I Need a New Connection Box?

I've updated an old router which connects to the internet via a DSL RJ11 connector. To one that uses an Ethernet RJ45 connector.
I can connect to it via PC and Phone, but can't get an internet signal.

When I bought the new router (GL iNet AX6000 Flint2), I also bought a RJ11 to RJ45 converter, so I could use the existing cable from the wall.
I've tried that. but no internet. Also the router doesn't detect the cable connected to it.

So I also tried using that converter (with the old router's RJ45 to RJ11 to form a RJ45 to RJ 45 cable effectively) on the old router's WLAN port, but the internet fails to connect.
Using a dedicated RJ45 to RJ45 Ethernet cable from the wall box's connection to the new router's WLAN port also fails to tempt the internet down the pipes.

The box on the wall is I guess a typical BT box, which one phone socket and a RJ45 port.
I wonder do I need to update the box to a proper Ethernet compliant one?

My ISP is Utility Warehouse connecting using PPPoE.

Thank you for any advice .

Your old router has a ADSL modem built in. Your new one does not. If your want to use your new router your only solution is to put your old router into modem mode, if it supports it. Then run a Ethernet cable from it to the WAN port on your new router.

Thank you very much for the advice.
I wasn't expecting that kind of an answer. I just thought all routers were equal.

Would there be any way to just using the new router? Or is it a "cable router" and just not compatible no matter what I do?
