Updated website - what do you think, please be kind

Could be more obvious that the links in the banner are actually links.

Sub-headings could use some padding.

Facebook logo is too close to text, add padding.

Add a date for 'latest news' so people know how recent it is.

Not keen on the header or footer designs at all. Think the header on the main page need a bit of padding around them too.

Can't understand why you've used tables either.

You also have 11 validation errrors - all due to missing alt tags for images.

Would personally align the text left too.

Personally, design wise, I might make the red header the full width of browser too.

The spacing and padding in general is all off, there's no consistency.

The banner/navigation font isn't the easiest to read, especially due to the size of it. The checked effect you've got there is also pretty tacky looking if I'm honest.

You might want to get some ALT tags on your images too, as pointed out here.

Had a quick look at the code as well and it looks like you've used tables for the layout. You should really be using CSS for this.

The content is there though which is a good thing, I just think it could be presented better.

EDIT: God damn you suarve! Barnsley falling behind on Soccer Saturday delayed me hitting the reply button :D lol 1-1 now!

Off topic, this thread is already indexed in google - the thread was only posted 4 hours ago :)

crazy isn't it, i have seen it less then an hour before, even minutes as often i'll post a thread askig something, then think actually i should google what i'm looking for so use the thread title and there it is on google first result.

the site is ok, it's lacking a lot of usability. add a bit of padding to things, improve the header and footer and that'll be a huge improvement. also lose the photo of the guys bum

As well as padding Facebook icon, header, footer, text boxes, sub titles and others, I'd suggest lowering the 'submit' button next to the email box, it looks a bit to close, but that’s just me ;)

I like the style, and I think I can see they style you are trying to achieve by using the sub heading boxes like that, however I think the font doesn't suit the style.

Also have you thought about softening the ends of the header and footer if you aren't going to stretch them to the width of the browser window?
Also pad the links in the header more, generally space things out some more.

To be honest with you, the code is quite nasty. You're nesting tables three deep and it makes the code a nightmare to read and maintain. You could achieve the same thing with a CSS-based layout using half the code and it would be much, much quicker to update.

..the result of using design view in something like Dreamweaver :(

I agree I should have used CSS but, its my first website for over 10 years so I am a little behind the times. Now the website is up it will evolve over time which will propbably mean moving to CSS but for now I need to learn some new skills. Using Dreamweaver because its quick and easy and its what I used to use, originally started hand coding using Homesite 4.0 back when I was younger.

Will post again when CSS is overcome.

It's definitely a worthwhile thing to learn. When you're used to working with tables it can be hard to adjust to, so don't be surprised if you don't grasp CSS-based design straight away. But once you've picked it up, you'll be able to create and maintain sites much more quickly.

Agree with the above, definatly a move towards css based design will do you wonders, will make verything much cleaer for you in the long run.
