What ho everyone! Now that the GTX980 is on the cards, I updated my X99 build. I removed the Gsync monitor for now as I don't really need one (and could almost buy a second GTX980 for the price) and chose a different mobo and ram. I want opinions on to what you would change with this build.

- I chose the case because I simply love that case, so that's a stayer XD
- The CPU will vastly help me with my rendering and design work, compared to my old i5 in this which is slow in those tasks.
- I only intend to game at 1080p, despite the GTX980's fancy downscaling tech ofc.
- I have a spare SSD in this system to also add to that, however it would be used for recordings. I chose a pro to avoid the recent discovery on the standard 840 slowdowns on older data.

If you think you can make it cheaper at no loss to performance, go for it! On the other hand, I have more to play with, so improve some components if you think they really need to be improved :D

This is great as was just about to post this.

Ive gone

Asus X99-Deluxe Intel X99
Intel 5930K 3.50GHz (Haswell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 - Retail
Corsair Hydro H90 140mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit
Asus GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design"

Thoughts? Got case, got drives, probably don't need PSU but thinking my older PSU might not have the latest connections. Thoughts?

Actually I'd like to replace the case as it's too big, far too big actually. So what similar quality case would you propose that is smaller, but doesn't make it difficult to move to SLI etc?

Well I am one of those guys that would always have that feeling in the back of my mind if I went for slower RAM of "what if".

im probably not the best guy to ask:p

For just one card, or even 2 really, you won't lose anything by getting the cheaper 5820k.

I need the extra threads for the massive amount of rendering and design work I do. When rendering work in 2-4K, it will ccome in handy and save me time. This isn't just a game rig :)

Thanks for the spec. I'm willing to pay the extra £15 for the case I want (vanity I know) but overall it's cheaper!

Would it be worth going with faster RAM? I don't want to feel like I've been short-changed at some point?

That's with faster RAM, and I didn't change the cooler as the better one you listed is out of stock at the moment. I was also considering these RAMs, which would be the best RAM of which we've looked at overall in your opinion Stulid?

Le RAM Choices

Lastly, I'd like to get your opinions on my mobo choice Stulid (and anyone else reading), as I didn't want to spend too much on a board with features I wouldn't use.

I know Gskill do nice RAM with well binned chips so should overclock nicely.

But i would get something faster than 2400Mhz at stock, so 2666 or higher for me.

Okay, so with these in mind:

1 x Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit (CMD16GX4M4A2666C15) £329.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Elite 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit £329.99
1 x G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit - Red (F4-2666C15Q-16GRR) £299.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M4A2666C15) £249.95

Which would be your ultimate choice? I like Dominator RAM, but is the quality worth the price for 2666 vs the Crucial 3000?

Same with the Ripjaws and Vengeance situation :)

Is there really any worthwhile advantage to buying faster clocked RAM. I don't recall ever seeing a DD3 benchmark where it actually made a noticeable difference? Does it make an impact with DDR4 given you're talking an extra £100 to go from 2400MHz to 3000MHz?

The 5820K has exactly the same amount of Cores/Threads as the 5930K. I think the only difference is the extra pci-e lane bandwidth and the slightly higher clock speed.
