Hi

Can anyone give me some quick advice. The latest rom is available on my Nexus 4 and I want to upgrade to it.

The last time I attempted it and it rebooted I had the custom rom image but with no apps installed and my Nova launcher & settings missing. Kind of annoying.

So this time I want to back up my Nova settings and also my apps. I can backup Nova settings but it gets stored to /sdcard/data/com.tesla.../backup

Will this location be safe when I flash the new ROM and then I can restore the settings later?

I have ti-backup pro but whenever I restore a backup using ti-backup user apps & system data I get issues. Should I just backup the apps, rather than apps & system data?

Cheers

edit: the rom is CM 10 and latest is 10.1.3 RC2

When you say flash it, which of the following:
  • You are using a custom ROM, and you are going to flash the new version straight over without wiping anything;
  • You are using a custom ROM, and are going to wipe everything and flash;
  • You are using the stock ROM, and are just updating it through an OTA.
If you are flashing a custom ROM, as long as you don't wipe the Internal Storage partition (ie. in TWRP, you don't do a factory reset and instead choose to wipe Data alone) your data will be safe. If you are just receiving an OTA update, nothing will change, and you won't lose your data.

EDIT: I think you edited after I started posting, but as above, just don't wipe the Internal Storage partition (instead go to the Wipe menu in TWRP and just wipe Data, Cache and Dalvik cache, and flash over).

I have CM 10.1.2 version on phone already.
Last time I tried to update to the latest version CM 10.1.3-RC2 it flashed the rom and when it booted back up it had the ROM only on it, none of my apps, or nova settings etc.

I just want it to update to latest without affecting what's currently on the phone

I've sorted it now.

Took a ti-backup of Apps only
Backup of Nova Launcher

Updated ROM via Rom Manager. Rebooted and then restored ti-backup and Nova backup.

Back to normal apart from a few apps need re-registering etc.
