I've ordered an i5 760 processor, and I've been looking at various motherboards to plug it into.

I understand that as this is a new chip some motherboards may need a bios update to support it.

The problem being of course that I don't have an older supported processor to plug in instead so I can flash the bios.

I was looking at getting an Asus P7P55D Pro, as that seems ideal for my budget and in terms of features, but that only supports the 760 in the latest bios, and I can't guarantee which bios the board will ship with - it's more likely an older version. There is a newer version with extra features which looks like it supports the 760 from a low bios version, but it's £30 more expensive.

I take it if the CPU isn't officially supported by the bios then the motherboard won't boot at all?
