i downloaded the dos software to update the bios in windows but i dont know how to use that. i looked all around google to find how to do it.

please help,
shimy

no wait am stuck, i got a floppy and formated it so that it can be booted. but there isnt enough space for afudos and the bios file?

you will need 2 floppy disks mate,

you can update it in windows ya know lol

asus update is on the cd that came with the mobo,

i have used it everytime with no issue, as i dont have a floppy in my machine.

You dont use the DOS stuff to update it in windows :p You need to use Asus Update tool which is on the motherboard CD in the utilities tab. Thats if you want to update it by windows.

Download which ever bios you want and extract it
Open Asus update and choose 'Update Bios from file' and click next
Choose the .ROM file
Click flash! :D

Make sure there arent any other programs running though. If its fails the board should still boot but ask for the motherboard cd to be put in. It will then flash to the original bios on the CD.

doesnt the disk come with the audio driver?
im downloading from asus (europe server) at a rate of 5.6kb per sec and its going to take an hour and half..

o right it is installed... then why cant i get any sound?

is there something in the bios i have to do? theres no option for changing volume etc etc

Ok mate,

Go get a cup of tea, and prepair for some RTFM'ing lol

Go into the bios and ensure hd audio is installed.

Then make sure you have your speakers plugged into the correct jacks on the back, their normally colur coded. When you plug stuff in the audio software normally detects it.

Saying that i have gotten hacked off with the onboard and disabled it, am now using my old audigy2 which to me is less hassel :P

You need to make sure windows detects it as new hardware and then it installs it 'properly' I had this problem where it would install and show the realtek audio manager but it didnt actually install the drivers properly.

Datamonkey did yours sometimes fizz and get distorted when playing music/audio?

Xez.

nope, played music fine, problem i had is i use skype a lot as my missus works all over the world for the oil industry,

And each time i powered up the pc the mic wouldnt work, had to un-plug and plug it back in.

Also the mic was very quiet.

ok thanks for the posts. HD audio was enabled, and the correct jacks was also conected.

i just installed SP2 and it detected HD stuff. so hopefully it will work now.
thanks for your posts :D
