Updating BIOS

Do you guys think using the ASUS BIOS Update Utility is safe (updating BIOS directly on the PC)? In the instructions it says use default BIOS settings, however I can't do this as it won't let me start Windows. I remember I had to switch a setting - something to do with my HD configuration for it to be able to start.

Quite a few people recommend updating from the BIOS and not within windows, less chance of it going wrong!
I've always used the windows utility on my Abit & Gigabyte and all has gone well.

I would never update the BIOS through Windows.
