Updating Blackberry Bold 9700 to OS 6 issues

Okay well my BlackBerry wasn't running well /at all/ on OS5, so I figured I'd give OS6 a try. I installed the OS, and, like a few other people on the internet's blackberry phones (now that I've searched it), everything except the trackpad works.

Has anybody here used a specific method to install OS 6 on their Bold 9700 without this problem (I'm on Orange UK so there's no current vendor OS6)? I guess I could downgrade again, but for me that was buggy, crashed a lot etc. so if there's a way to get OS 6 working properly I'd rather use that.

Overall I've had a right miserable time with my BB since getting it in September... Sure BBM is nice enough, but choosing today, it'd be an HTC chacha without a moment's doubt

Sounds like a hardware problem i.e. the trackpad is broken.

Have you tried to go back to OS5 and see if the trackpad works? If it doesn't then seems like the trackpad is broken. If it does work on OS5 then something strange is going on :p

Also which versions of OS6 did you install? I'm running OS6 on my 9700 and never experienced a problem with the trackpad.

Spawn is your man for Blackberry on these forums, maybe he can offer some advice!

I'm running OS6 quite smoothly on my 9700. I did once encounter the problem where the track pad would not respond. However, a battery pull solved the issue for me. Haven't since had a recurrence. Have you tried that yet?

How long did you leave the battery out for? I tried it for 10 minutes with no improvement, and the others who got the problem mentioned that a battery pull didn't help, even for 30 minutes.

It's the AT&T 6.0.0.526 release (with the Vendor file deleted, obv.)

Didn't work again....

Gonna go back to OS5 as I need my phone unless anyone has a fix

Frankly the reliability has been terrible. The sms app crashes/chats can't be opened, everything else bogs down and the phone crashes/dies almost every other day... Definitely not wasting my money on another one next time...

Is it still under warranty? I've had no issues what so ever with mine in fact its probably the most stable smart phone I've owned

'fraid not, changed the casing on it after the warranty got voided from water damage. (The phone had been unstable long before that and nothing's stopped working, while it was stupid, it hasn't affected the phone)

Okay I've tried going back to OS5 but the loader.exe, even after removing OS6, wiping my BB and installing OS5 on my pc, is still loading OS6 on my BB :( I've got a bricked bb it seems :( Is there anything i should be doing differently to installing OS6 to go back to OS5?

do you have any older backups on your machine? This should do a complete wipe and restore it to an earlier version?

Managed to go back to an earlier version now, just restoring it now but hopefully this fresh (ish) install will be more stable.

I guess there's no fix for the trackpad issue? I've only seen "help me" threads and "try battery pull" responses :(

Sounds like a hardware problem...have u considered it sending it back to the network, if you got it from there or send it back from the place u got it from ie a store...it comes with a 1 yr warranty or 2 yrs with the 9700.

Ok you do realise that OS6 will not run all that great on the 9700 dont you??...even though its officially available for the 9700...its not really optimised to run on the 9700 due to the low-ish specs of the device...the 9780 which is exactly the same but with better specs is optimised to run OS6...which it does anyways as its an OS6 device.

There may well be other OS6 versions that might run better but for some 9700's some of these OS6 versions might not run all that great ie your trackpad problem being one of the issues as your not experiencing it with OS5.

Hell even with my 9780, i updated to the newest OS for the 9780 last night and found it i had all sorts of little bugs...random glitching etc...i just went back to the one i had before and all is well...a lot of the OS updates are maintenance releases ie nothing major changes in them so you will find people will usually just go back to the OS version they had previously especially if they are having issues.
