Hi, I believe my computer is due some updates yet I do not want to buy all the parts at once and want to spread the cost over a few months. Thus i do not know what would be a good upgrade and which parts I need to buy first etc.

I currently have a geforce 8800 gts, a poor motherboard which only cost around £50 at the time I purchased the gfx card and 2gb RAM (also didnt cost very much) I would be looking at upgrading all these components plus getting a decent soundcard, harddrive, disk drive of some degree and I would like to reduce the noise in the case, thus looking for some decent high quality low noise fans. I currently have an antec 900 case.

The rig would be used for gaming, watching films and general day to day use. Ultimately I am looking to spend around £1000.

Cheers

Slightly over I know, but there is plenty of cut backs that can be made if necessary!

I also assumed you had an operating system to use, and you also didn't state anything about a CPU...so I made a full system.

Bugger forgot your sound card.

If you post full specs of your current system it will make it easier to advise.

However i would suggest you upgrade your video card first as well as changing the current fans in your case.
This should give you an initial boost in gaming as well as helping to silence your system down.
If you intend to change your CPU as well the consensis at present for gaming is to go with a highly clocked dual core cpu.
Depending on your current system mobo you might be able to insert an intel C2D E8400 and then update your mobo and ram after.
After that then you can add a seperate soundcard as well as a larger Hdd/Hdd's
