updating games from physical to digital (Xbox)

I'm not looking to replace all my games only the ones I'm playing a LOT

For example, I have Forza 7 on disc, but want to have it digital so I don't need to keep swapping discs out.
Is it as straight forward as punching in the digital code for it and away I go? no longer need to use the disc?
I'm then free to sell the disc copy?

Would the `sold` disc still work though?As in would it work online?As there would already be your serial registered/Curious

On the disc??? I've bought preowned games and never had an issue online with them

Ah no sorry, I meant from buying an un-used digital XBL code from someone
like the codes you get within console bundles for example

What serial? There is no code for the disc, that's why you have to use the disc to play the game.

I think at one point some developers did that for playing online. ie punch in a serial to access online content. Obviously didn't catch on.
