i'm having problems updating my bios for some strange reason.

I go into the flash utility within the ASUS bios and select the bios from my PC to instal.

I then get this message and it wont load

"BOOT BLOCK IN FILE IS NOT VALID"

what does this mean and can i fix whatever it is?

redownload the bios mate sounds like its corrupt, do that and then put it onto a usb stick and flash it in the bios either that or do it thru asus update which is incredibly stable for a windows based flasher

I wouldn't recommend using the Windows based utility mate, it's notorious for killing boards. Not sure about the X58 series, but for any other Asus board it's pants.

Flash the bios using the EZFlash tool from the bios. Just donwload the bios to a pen, restart the PC, press Alt-F2 until the application starts. Then just find your pendrive, and the bios in it and press Enter :P

The EZ Flash tool in the BIOS is what I always use across all my ASUS boards (I have two AMD ones, a P45 and an X58). All have been updated without a hitch. I never really bothered with the windows version, only did that with my MSI board (socket 754) and it was fine. But for the X58 one definitely used the BIOS version.

WHat everyone else said really - I use EZFlash, and it works great.

Never did like the idea of flashing from Windows, as this process can sometimes go wrong. I know the ASUS has a backup BIOS, but I'd prefer to play on the safe side.

Good luck! :)

My P6T Deluxe V2 seemed to be fine with an older BIOS that wasn't listed as supporting the D0 - didn't have any problems with it, but obviously still got it upgraded anyway.

yes mate it did. cam installed with 0302 bios which supports D0

Have you updated it to 0406? cos I did last week and noticed some interesting changes. Especially when it comes to overclocking.

Whereas with 0302, you couldnt manually set the CPU ratio to 21 (at least I know mine didnt), with 0406 you can now do this.

found asus update to be really good if u down load the file first and then do the update but on the update via internet it goes **** up

21 multi is on the pt6 v 1 too, has been for the last 4 bios updates but never thought about using the turbo will give that a try later
