Hi guys, im thinking of upgrading my rig a little, specifically the video card. My current set up is:

E6600
G.Skill 2gb DDR2 800 (HZ)
HIS ATI 1900 ICEQ 3
antec truepower2 (550w)
Gigabyte 965p DS4 mobo

Now im aiming to play something like fallout3 on some high settings at 1680*1050 and im looking at this card to do the buisness:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

I have a few questions however, this card says pci-e 2.0 support however my mobo is only pci-e 1.0a i believe, will it even be compatible and if so will it be at a slower setting?

Secondly will anything in my system seriously bottle neck this card? or would it be wise to save more pennys and do a full mobo/cpu/ram/video update?

Any help appreciated!
Si.

That is a nice choice of card but you could go with http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail

At 1650x1050 the extra 512mb of vram on your option wouldn't justify the extra cost afaik.

Don't worry about pci-e 2.0, your mobo is compatible and you wouldn't notice a difference as the full bandwidth of pci-e 2.0 isn't really used yet anyway!

A ram upgrade to 4gb couldn't hurt as its so cheap at the moment! If you are worried about the cpu just stick a nice overclock on it.

I can't see that system bottlenecking anywhere though, the psu should be fine.

Thanks for the replys looks like ill just be getting the card and possibly some more ram, I only have 32bit vista and i've heard it will not support that amount, is that true or just lies?

Also can someone recomend me some RAM? i do have 2gb og G.skill ddr 800 (HZ) but OC doesnt seem to stock these anymore so i can't just get another 2gb of that :S

time bomb capacitors? O_O

You can use 4gb with 32 bit vista, I think it sees 3.6 or something like that, but still uses the whole amount, google for the exact info but its still worth having 4gb with a 32bit os.

Perhaps there have been issues with that psu, I was saying it was fine in terms of wattage but I don't know more than that really...

Ah thanks for clarifying that one, still well worth it for the price imo, plus if you switch to a 64bit OS in future you can make use of the full amount later!

Thanks again, can someone recomend me some RAM then? i currently have:

2x G.Skill PC2-6400 (400mhz) F2-6400PHU1-1GBHZ (4-4-4-12)

OcUK doesn't appear to stock these anymore so i cant just get two more of them, im assuming it might be best to get a new 2x2GB kit, if thats the case could you recomend me one please?

my mobo "Supports DDR2 800/667/533 memory "

Cheers,
Si.

Go for the geil black dragon ddr2 800 i think they do it in 2x2gb which will help take load off the nb when/if you overclock
