Trying to update powershell on server 2008 r2.

Current version is 2. Ideally update to 4 but 3 will do.

I'v tried downloading and installing the Windows Management Framework 3 and 4 but it keeps saying it's not applicable for my system. I am as far as I know downloading and installing the right thing.

It's a x64 bit system. I've update .net to 4.5.1 as well which is a prerequisite.

Any one have any ideas?

The prerequistes for 4 are:

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

.NET 4.5

---

The server according to windows:

Windows Server Standard Service pack 2

.net 4.5.1 is installed

---

Vsphere does report the VM as a Server 2008 r2 machine tho.

vSphere reports the Guest OS you specified during setup of the VM (where you select Windows/Linux/Other).

What do you get if you run 'winver' in cmd, it should be Version X.X

6.1 is 2008R2, 6.0 is 2008

Hmmm

I did scratch my head at this yesterday but was so distracted with other elements of this issue I didn't consider it:

Microsoft Server Version 6 (Build 60002: Service Pack 2)

So it doesn't look like this is a server 2008 R2 machine at all.

Success!!

I followed this to install the update for Server 2008.

Definitely not 2008 R2 if it is reporting SP2, as there is no such thing for 2008 R2.

Build 60002 -- is that a typo?
