Hi people, it's been a while since I've been on here but I'm after some advice as I want to update my rig.

I built my i5 machine when they first came out about 3 or so years ago so I'm a little rusty with these things now.

I'm going to get an SSD for my OS, am trying to decide between the Vertex 4 and the Samsung 830, any thoughts people?

Also I want a new GPU; I've got a Radeon X1950 which was from a previous build and hence is somewhat past it, I was looking to spend £50-£100 on a GPU, t would be good to be able to try some modern games (all I've got installed at present is FM2012), preferably with HDMI output that can carry sound as well; do I need to run a lead from mobo to GPU or is this done in hardware?

Any help would be greatly appriciated

best bang for bucks in the £100 range is the HD 6850.

You will need a decent PSU with one PCIE connector.

For me SSD are between the Intels, the Crucial M4, and the Samsung 830.

Modern GPUs all come with HDMI as standard. Just plug and play.

If you are happy with your i5, why not stick with it? Adding a SSD, doing a fresh install, and maybe putting 8GB ram will give it a nice boost, although I suspect if you are on 4GB, you'll be ok. If you are gaming, then an overclock, or yeah you can always get a 3570K and a Z77 motherboard (Z77-D3H).

Cheers, I should have been a bit clearer, the i5 is at 3.8Ghz with 4Gb of 2000Mhz RAM, just basically after a new gpu and ssd although an extra 4 or 8Gb of RAM is now onthe list.

What aftermarket cooler do you have?

4GB of RAM? I thought those boards were triple channel?
