Updating servers or joining games is d/c my internet!

Has anyone else had this problem? Not every time, but most times I update/refresh/join a server my internet goes down for about 2 minutes. This is happening with steam and non steam games.

My router is a THOMSON ST585v6sl and im connected by cable.

It's driving me mad!
 
I used to get this whenever i tried a Source engine game (Team Fortress 2, CS:S etc), i didn't find a solution in the end, eventually i just bought a new router and it stopped.
