Got the witcher and after registering the game I went to the website downloaded the enhanced edition patch and tried to install it but it said the language pack I was using was different to the game.

I was on the English site but the download page I was directed to had a lot of foriegn language(I'm guessing Polish) on it. Does anyone know where I could get the patches from an english mirror site?

I'm too lazy to turn my games PC on, but this had me puzzled too. I ran the 1.4 patch and had the same problem you did. I then downloaded the English language pack update from the same site I got 1.4 from (it's not a different version of the patch, it's separate stuff containing new spoken text I'm guessing) and simply by having that language pack on my desktop along with the 1.4 patch, the 1.4 patch now worked properly when I ran it. I presume it smelled the English language pack and sorted everything out.

I then put 1.5 on top of all that. I think. :-)

Worth the effort though. The combat system's a bit annoying (consolised) but you get used to it, and the world is really gritty. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it, but the story dragged me along for more than four hours yesterday during the Sunday afternoon heatwave, without me noticing. It's been a while since a game did that to me.

Thanks for that got it sorted now, hopefully. I got the language pack, then was able to install the enchanced edition without any problems, downloading 1.5 now :)

All running great now but got one question. Got the enhanced edition working great and the english language pack. but when playing there is no actual talking, just subtitles.

Do I need to re-install the language pack, and remove the subtitles or is there no speech as it is a Polish game?

Ok thanks a lot. I thought I did that but it'll be soemthing for me to try over the weekend.

Not in the settings I'm afraid, wish it was that simple :p

it was ported to xbox and ps3? PORTED TO THEM though its firstly a pc game

Thanks for backing up my point :p.

I personally feel the combat of say, Dragon Age or Baldurs Gate is more suited to a console. The Witcher made me pay attention in fights, sure it was repetition but it kept me focused on the battle. I didn't have to sit back and let the AI do it all for me.

Been wanting to try this for ages but being quite particular about rpg's I thought I wouldn't like it. Bought it during the current Steam sale for only a few quid, seems to be well worth it. I am even enjoying the beginning level, which I am told by most is one of the poorer parts of the game. Seems like there is plenty of variety.
