Updating windows defender

Hello!

I have a WiFi enabled Vista laptop, but i have no internet access for it as i am away for a few months.
The windows defender in it is kicking off saying it is out of date (annoying me).
I have internet access via work and a USB flash drive.
Can i update via work's internet and a flash drive? Will Vista/defender allow this or does it has to update via its own update software?

Defender normally updates through Windows Update.

EDIT: Realised you asking if you can download on another machine & copy the updates over to yours which, AFAIK, is a no.

just disable defender and turn off the service for it
