Upgrade 2005fpw to 2405fpw?

Hey all,

I've had my 2005fpw for a few months now i bought it second hand and it is by far the best monitor i've owned :)

I have an opportunity to get a 2405fpw for a good price so i'd only need to sell my current monitor and put £100ish towards it.

Will my system be able to cope with the higher res? I feel it struggles on high at its current res for games like oblivion and condemned etc.

You are an insomniac :p

Personally I wouldnt want to run the native res on anything less than SLi/XFire, but for £100 the extra res when using the desktop would be well worth it and you can always run games @ 1680x1050.
 
I've got a 2405 arriving tomorrow and I've already checked out the gaming performance of my PC at 1920x1200. For games like Painkiller it absolutely rips. Doom 3 and Far Cry come under the "adequate" category when running at such a high res (on a 7800GTX not overclocked).

A screen res of 960x600 is selectable (or configurable) in a lot of games. Being exactly half 1920x1200 it provides a resonable compromise between quality and speed, especially with 4x AA on. Of course, you can use higher, 1280x720 or 1280x768 for instance, but with such a resolution not providing a 1:1 mapping to the displays pixels... well, I'll find out tomorrow what that looks like. I understand the rescaling hardware in the 2405 is good, but not the best in the world.
 
Well i have the 2405 and love it to bits. The games i play on it with the computer in my sig are as follows:

BF2 - Can't have all the textures at high, have them at medium and 2 at high no aa i think and personally i think it looks the dogs :D . Also with that setup my fps is around 60-70 and I never see it drop below 55.

X3 - Reunion - Just got this and can play everything maxed out with no noticable lag, havn't managed to find how to show the fps yet lol.

Oblivion - From memory I play this at its highest settings and have had NO lag whatsoever. Again don't know how to show the fps counter yet.

CIV 4 - Again have it at highest setting with no lag etc.

I have all these games running in full res ie, 1920x1200. And this is with my X1800xt at stock.

Hi,

Yeah it is the 512mb version but I havn't overclocked it either, cos had issues with it mucking up the graphics in BF2, nothing to do with the screen though as this was on my old 17inch screen.

So when i sort bf2 out it should run like a dream with the 1800 overclocked, also all the rest of the bits are at stock as i just havn't had the time to overclock the cpu and memory, gonna do it when i move into me new place and setup though :D.

I have a 2405 and use to run it on a x800 (400/980) at 1920 x 1200. That was fine in farcry etc. I now have a x850xt (550/1100) and thats better but still fine at full resolution on high graphics settings
 
I didn't manage to get the 2405 for that good price i wanted :s

still after one though, that setup looks good afk, what other tft is that? reminds me off my old nec diamondpro sb (ahhh huge crt monitors...how i miss them :P)

Ok, so my system shouldn't have a problem running games at that res then. Do you think i should wait for the new 2007 models?

Well the monitor on the left of the 2405 is a 17" NEC Multisync 176NX unfortunetly it has developed a line running about 5mm from the bottom of the screen hence the 2405 purchase :) And on the right of that is my emac. At this stage yeah if ** not in a hurry I would wait for the 2407, see what people think of it and what price its gonna be. Personally I am happy with me 2405 just annoyed that I didn't wait a little longer as they lowered the price by 80 quid lol.
 
Well just sold my 2005fpw.

So i'm getting a refurbished 2405, my friend says that they are prone to backlight bleed like the 2005. Is this true?

no not true, some might have a little but no where near the 2005,
mines perfect looks like some backlight bleed but thats just me sitting too close
move away and its fine

What do you guys use to clean your monitor? Do you buy the special wipes? I was pouring rubicon lychee juice near the monitor and its got sticky splash marks on it! ><
