I have a near immaculate Macbook pro from 2009 that I want to bring back into use. It's actually quite quick with 8gb RAM and just the dual core CPU. But can I simply buy the latest OSX and put it on there? Will it slow it down a lot?

Thanks.

You'll definatley want to put an SSD in it, even if its just a 128 gig drive it willbe a much better experience that have a mech drive in there. I've got a mid 2010 MacBook Pro 13 inch and with the latest OSX on there with 6 gig of RAM I still found it quite sluggish. Put in a Crucial 240 Gig SSD and it make a huge difference :)

Agree with the above, I almost feel like OSX is unusable on slow 2.5" mechanicals!
I use an ancient 2008 MBP with an SSD (runs at 1.5gbps) and even it feels great to use still.
