Hello!

I need some advice.

I currently have a Dell XPS8100 which I've upgraded with an EVGA 750W PSU, a GTX770 and an SSD, but I want to move those components to a new rig and (long term) upgrade the graphics card.

I was thinking of getting this bundle - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/defc...ghz-overclocked-skylake-bundle-bu-068-og.html

and this case to stick it all in - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/coolermaster-masterbox-5-midi-tower-case-black-ca-36a-cm.html

I don't need any peripherals, so I'm just wondering if that's the best I can do for a £400-500 budget?

For clarification, I'll mainly be using this for flight sim software, such as P3D and DCS!

Any advice gratefully received! :)

Do you know what processor it was that you had in the dell machine?

Also, what are you trying to achieve by doing this? Do you know that doing what you want is going to improve your performance?

The bundle is good if you dont want to overclcok yourself i would advise geting the 16gb of ram and the alphenon black cpu cooler if you go with that bundle as it will look better.

Heres my alternative.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £431.06

If you can't do anything with the processor you currently have (I don't think so as it should be an old i5-650 or i7-860 and therefore generally worth upgrading, but it wouldn't hurt to check) then I'd recommend going with Micky's spec.

Overclocking that CPU on that board is so simple you don't even have to touch voltages. Just increase the multiplier to 45 and save and exit. Even that Kingston RAM makes it easy because it automatically sets XMP (runs at its rated 2400MHz instead of default 2100).

You'd have to be unlucky to land a chip that won't do 4.5GHz with that board's auto-voltages. And even if you did, it would be easy for us to help you tweak it so it works.

It's an i7-870, so 7 years old.

It's done a great job up until now but I'd like to increase frame rates and general performance on P3D, really.

That looks good!

I went for it with those components I quoted above. I haven't OC'd it yet but I will do soon. It's wonderful - such a massive improvement. Getting 30-40FPS on P3D and that's a marked change. Thanks for the advice :)
