So guys, I have an option to upgrade my existing pre order of a 5900X to 5950X for £280. I paid £510 for the 5900X.

Wanted to get something that’s going to last a while, hence buying the 5900X. I’m not sure the 5950X will last that much more than the 5900X.

What would you guys do?

If you’re mainly using it for gaming and general use, the platform will become dated well before core count matters.

Also depends on how urgently you need the CPU and how much £200 means to you.

I’m a software developer but really it’s mainly used for gaming. Overkill I know but wanted something to last a while.

Pointless getting loads of cores if you're not gonna need/use them. And i wouldn't buy anything expecting it to be good for 4-5 years, in just 2 or so years we could be seeing around a 40%+ uplift from current chips.
That’s pretty much my thoughts. Just wanted some confirmation from you guys.

Just got the notification my 5900X has been dispatched. Feels like Christmas, can't believe it. The longest pre order ever!
A nice end to the day, can't wait :)
