I'm currently running a E6400 on my rig and it doesn't seem to be able to cut the mustard with COD:BO sadly.

So I'm thinking of a quick and easy upgrade and the best options seem to be going QUAD, but which one?

And can I simply swap the CPU or will the MOBO throw a fit?
Also which is the best/quietest cooler for this socket? (OCUK only since I'm abroad so only want one delivery charge.)

Thanks for any and all help.

If you're sticking with 775 then go for a Q6600 or Q9550/Q9650. Cant go wrong with any of those if they are good clockers.

You should just be able to swap it straight. Bios settings would probably reset themselves.

Not sure about best quietest cooler sorry, I run on water. I've heard good things about the Thermaltake Frio although it might not be silent

Only thing I would add is you might need to update your BIOS before upgrading the CPU but check this first. And remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes before installing the new CPU as well.

don't really want to go down second hand route as I never use aution sites they usually lead to tears sadly as i'm not in the UK :(

None of the Qs on OCUK are any good?

What's wrong with the Q8300?

The Q8300 has a lower multiplier - 7.5 x 9 against a Q6600 and lower cache - 4MB vs 8MB. You would probably struggle to get a really good overclock easily on one of those rather than a q6600

Our Members Market is Brilliant i use it a lot.

Only yesterday I took delivery of a 2nd hand Q6600 from M&M.
As for fitting it took around 10 mins & I am using it now. :p
