After some advice please.

Thinking of upgrading my graphics card in preparation for a new monitor (maybe Acer XB280HK in September) to replace my 22" Samsung and for a bit more eye candy in games.

I've got my eye on the EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC 3GB, which should offer a big improvement over my single Gigabyte 7950. Its quite a pricey card at £530 and its a the top of my budget. So I want to make sure its a sensible choice?

I choose it mainly for Gsync and the new monitor as well as being a good GPU for gaming.

Now should I go for it or wait and see what Maxwell brings?

Or are we a way off the new cards?

My Gigabye mobo does not support xfire or SLI, so it rules that option out.

Intel [email protected] p/core, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte 7950,

You would not want a graphic card with just 3GB vram for 4K, and all current single GPU card would struggle with push 4K as well.

The only "budget friendly" and "affordable" (if we could call it that lol) graphic option for 4K at the moment is really a pair of 290 in crossfire...but for that, you would need a capable PSU as well as motherboard that would support proper crossfire.

In my honest opinion...it would be best not to jump on the 4K wagon just yet, instead, wait for true next gen 20nm flagship cards, and possible upgrade your system (may be the motherboard at the very least), graphic card and monitor altogether next year. 4K monitors would be even cheaper by then, and you will give you more budget to spend on the graphic instead.

+1

To be honest I would just go for a 1440p monitor. Whether it's a korean £200 one or a dell for £350 because currently we have the power to run good frames at that resolution. You could probabely flog your 7950 for £100 and you'd need another £260 for a decent gtx 780.

About next year would be better, you will always have this problem that you could get much better stuff for less money next year.... This will never change!!! When you wait for first generation Maxwell, second generation will be cheaper and more powerfull aso...
