Upgrade advice - £600 budget
With Elite Dangerous and GTAV on the horizon, it is time to upgrade my ageing Phenom II 965. I have a pair of SSD and a 1TB HDD that I will migrate from my existing system, along with a R9 280X Vapor.
My existing case is a Zalman Z7 which has been upgraded with a bunch of 120mm Noctua fans. My current cooler is an H60, though I don't think it supports some of the newer chipsets. My existing PSU is a Corsair TX 650W
My initial thoughts are as follows:
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail - £257.99
ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - £109.99
This leaves another £200 to use on memory, case (if required), PSU, coolers etc.
I last upgraded my CPU six years ago and it is only just now starting to struggle to keep up with games - I want something else equally future-proof. Quietness is key too, at idle I barely want to be able to hear it
