I'm looking to upgrade my PC.. instead of going out and just buying a new one. This is what I currently have:

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3200
RAM - 1GB Crucial
MOBO - Asus K8V SE Deluxe
G.Card - GeForce FX 5900XT (128mb)

Mainly I'd like to upgrade the graphics card to at least 512mb, and probably a faster processor. I'm thinking about buying another Gb of ram too..

I have about £800 to mess with, so what would be the best option?

Thanks. 8)

take it u gonna keep u present case dvd drives ect ?

this would give a very powerful machine for that cash.

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI) £91.99

GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit £89.99

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 XT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 £236

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 200GB ST3200820AS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM £45.95

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) £17.99

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-135-IN) £107.99

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply (CA-018-OC) £69.99

Subtotal £643.89
VAT £112.69
Total £746.58

could cut bak probs £10-15 on the psu, but it future proof, grt psu & 3 yrs warranty.
would advise going for the 2 x1 gb of ddr2 as well, futere proof again, on that set above, would cost another £100, or change cooler for sythe another £15 more exp grt g card, h/d cpu cooler

Sorry I should have said, yeah I'm keeping mostly what I have. I currently have a 500W PSU shouldn't that be okay? And I already have 2x512 sticks of RAM, will they still work with the new motherboard and be enough room for the other two sticks?

I have a cooler for my CPU and a hard drive too, so if I don't have to buy them I would rather not. :D

WIth £800 to spend you would be a lot better following the guy aboves upgrade advice. At the moment you're on AGP and socket 754 so if you really wanted to upgrade it would only cost a couple of hundred. However what you buy ain't going to last long and a full on upgrade is much better value for money. Especially since you've got a large budget.

The above spec is excelletn and will grant you literallly 3 times the performance in games, maybe more. You'll be able to play everything at full details for a while to come. If you're not so bothered about sound maybe go with a connect£D x1900xt and save £40 which you could put towards the 2GB of RAM. IMO i'd say go with PC5300 RAM rather than PC6400 as you're not going to see the benefit of the 6400 unless you massively overclock that CPU.

Edit: If you want to stick with what you've got I suggest you find out what speed of RAM you have and also find out whether your Mobo can run 4x512MB at that speed or whether it underclocks it.
IIRC the best AGP card is the x1600.
That should cost less than £200.

Okay, thanks everyone for helping me out! Going with what Rab and Reiver said:

Do I need to get the new harddrive that Rab mentioned? The one I have just now is big enough for me. If not, I can put that money towards the 2Gb ram instead of the 2x512. : )
