Recently my ATI HD4800 is 80c at idle and keeps shutting my pc down on any game, I'm looking for a new GPU at around £100-£150 budget. I will be dual screening, with 1080p resolution on the main screen only.

Psu is 600w
Motherboard has pci-e 16x

Whats the best for my money?

Given the age of the 48xx series, it's probably just caked in dust. Maybe see if you can remove the heat sink and shroud, give it a good dust out with a dry clean paintbrush and hover, clean the GPU die and HS contact plate and reassemble with some new thermal paste... Unless you need more GPU power and a shiny upgrade

Thanks for the welcome, cant see a make on the PSU without turning the pc off and checking, what does the B grade mean? And I would really like a new card anyway, I have cleaned out the 4800 and its still fubard

Might be dried thermal paste on the card then if you gave the card a good dusting.

B-Grade is returned cards to OcUK that still works perfectly. Usually you won't get any of the extras that comes with a new card.

It would be wise to check what PSU you have, it could be a cheap one that can't provide stable power or a decent PSU that can happily power any card you throw at it.

What's the rest of the system specs as well? Don't want anything that your CPU might hold back ;).

To be honest I would much prefer a brand new card, under the £150 bracket probably closer to £100, its just such a pain trying to find something good and reliable with my little knowledge. My pc is a good 3 years old now, and the rest of the components will be upgraded in time. So even if the graphics card is better then my current system, it wont matter in time.

Other details are

Processor: intel core 2 quad cpu q6600 @2.40ghz
Computer ACPI X64
Motherboard:asus p5lpl/1600
